FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  •  Where are you located?

All of our animals are located in Rabat, Morocco.

  •  Are all of the animals listed on your website available for adoption?

We post both strays and shelter animals on our website. All of the shelter animals are available for worldwide adoption now. However, the strays are currently available for African adoption only.

If you have a favorite of our strays and would like to see them in our shelter as soon as possible, we are excited to offer a waiting list program. With this program, you are able to put your chosen cats on our shelter's Priority Waiting List. This means, when a space opens up in the shelter, your favorite animal will be taken in and eligible for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find out more about this program here.

Because our shelter is currently only available to cats, we cannot add any of the dogs to the Priority Waiting List. Once we expand to include housing dogs in our shelter, we will be able to fulfill the requirements necessary for the export of those dogs to other continents, and worldwide adoptions will become available.

  •  Why do you have so many more cats than dogs?

It’s just a case of the surviving number of strays in Rabat. Unfortunately, stray dog colonies are often targeted for mass euthanasia to reduce their numbers. Therefore, Hajar takes care of the stray dogs that survive the attacks. Additionally, there are a number of stray dogs that we care for that are not listed on the website because they are very afraid of humans and would not currently be suitable for adoption.

  •  Does your shelter include dogs?

Currently, the shelter only includes cats. However, we would love to one day expand to include dogs in the safety of our shelter. If you are in Morocco and would like to foster any of our dogs, please let us know via the Contact Us form.

Unfortunately, no. As our shelter only currently includes cats, we do not have a shelter for the dogs to wait to get into.

  •  Can I adopt one of your animals?

Yes! If you are interested in adoption, send us your request via the Contact Us page and we will send you an adoption form. Please note that if you are international, adopting an animal from Morocco is a much more complicated process than adopting an animal from your home country. However, we are willing to do the work if you are!

  •  Can I adopt one of your animals if I do not live in Morocco?

Yes! We have adopted out many of our animals internationally. However, please note that if you are international, adopting an animal from Morocco is a much more complicated process than adopting an animal from your home country. We are willing to do the work if you are! If interested, send us a request via the Contact Us page and we will send you an adoption form.

At the moment, only our shelter cats are available for worldwide adoption. Our stray cats and dogs can only be adopted out within Africa. Once we expand to include housing dogs in our shelter, we will be able to fulfill the requirements necessary for the export of dogs to other continents, and worldwide adoptions will become available to them.

  •  If I donate, where does my money go?

100% of all donations go towards the care of both the stray and shelter animals. This includes food, cat litter, spay and neuter, vaccinations, and all other necessary medical treatments. To donate to all of our animals, please visit the How to Help page for more information. If you would like to donate to one animal specifically, you can do that through the animal’s individual page. Please visit the Adoptions page for more information.

  •  Why do some of the animals on your adoptions page already have homes?

Yes, a few of the animals listed for adoption are for virtual adoption only (via sponsorship) because they already have an owner. Usually, the owners of these animals are unable to afford the cost of their animal’s care for a variety of reasons, such as homelessness or poverty. So, Hajar helps make sure the animal is getting what they need. In a perfect world, every animal would have a home that is able to fully provide for them. However, this is just not the case. So, in these situations, the owner provides the love and protection, and we help support everything else.
